How do you keep stamped concrete from cracking?

This can be done by using a hose and then placing a cover on top that is held with heavy objects, such as stones or bricks. Stamped concrete that is properly installed and sealed can last for decades before it cracks or fades. Like any exterior material, minimal wear and tear over time due to exposure and use is inevitable. Random cracks in the concrete you just laid often start small and almost unrecognizable.

A good way to minimize such a crack is to alleviate it by deepening the nearest expansion or saw-cut joint. This may require deepening the joint beyond the typical 25 percent slab thickness used as our industry standard. You'll be surprised at how often this will freeze a nearby crack randomly so that it doesn't get bigger and, more importantly, more noticeable. Stamped concrete isn't going to last forever.

Eventually, it will start to crack and break like any other type of concrete. However, stamped concrete is actually very resistant to cracking, and when steps are taken to care for it, it must endure a long time before it needs to be replaced. You won't have to worry about it breaking down too soon, as long as you have it installed the right way. There are a lot of differences between stamped concrete and pavers, and most people don't really understand them, so I wanted to lay out the top 5 reasons why stamped concrete stinks and why pavers are much better and actually cheaper if you look at the price you pay in a period of time of more than 5 years old.

Cutting and Grooving As with any concrete surface, the most obvious way to control cracks is to cut the control joints. However, concrete does crack and it is difficult to replace cracked parts without replacing everything. The seam where one pour meets the other pour shows a color variation between the concrete poured on day 1 and day 2.While patterned concrete can show signs of discoloration over the years if you don't take proper care of it, placing a high-quality sealant on it will prevent most of the discoloration from occurring. This condition is almost always visible only when the concrete is wet and disappears when the concrete is dry.

Still, I explain to my friends how either of them fits into their environment and that pavers save costs eventually, but stamped concrete looks elegant. At some point, almost every stamper has seen crust cracks near joints in a stamped concrete slab. Workers typically touch the concrete to assess how soft or firm it is to begin the stamping operation. This is a condition where fine lines are seen on the concrete surface that resemble a spider web.

Most companies that install stamped concrete use a combination of past performance, pictured, and small stamped samples when selling new construction. This condition is more likely to occur with certain weather or temperature conditions where the concrete surface hardens slightly faster than the thickness of the concrete slab, making tears more likely. Contractors who specialize in stamped concrete won't mention this, but your yard will look great, sometimes incredible when done by a really good company, for about 3 to 5 years (if you seal it every year). If the stamped concrete slabs have the same depth in the paved area and were stamped when they were slightly dry but malleable, 25 years is the average.
